Yesterday at some point during my ride on the trainer, I crossed the 800 mile mark in training this year. That includes 339 miles of Running, 435 miles of Cycling and 34 miles of swimming. I have a big goal coming up in a little over 4 weeks and it requires some big training. The next 3 weekends my scheduled training plan calls for 7 to 9 hours of training just on Saturday and Sunday. And I have to fit all of that around Soccer, Mother’s day and whatever else life throws at me.
So far, this has been a remarkable year for me physically. I put on about 15 pounds after the Free Press Marathon last October and I have managed to get 10 of it back off. This month could be the month I shed the other 5 if not more.
I am really looking forward to both the Island Lake Sprint Triathlon and the Racing For Recovery Half Ironman coming up. I will be racing the Island Lake Tri with a friend doing his first Tri. Of course I will have to finish the Sprint Tri then race back home and get ready for my daughters soccer tournament on the same weekend. Hopefully we draw a later game on Saturday so I don’t have to miss.
The Half Ironman will be my first attempt at that distance and it is beginning to feel like a reasonable goal. After running a 2:04 Half Marathon, I am feeling pretty confident that my guesstimate of 7 hours is reasonable. I think the amount of time under 7 hours will be the amount of time under 1 hour I can complete the swim. I think the bike and run will take 6 hours any way I cut it. I am planning/guessing at a 3:30 bike and a 2:30 run and I think any faster on the bike will cost me a similar amount of time on the run, if not more.
May should be fun training month and starting to race at the end of the month will make it even more exciting.
